bike decisions + falafel pita

Filed under: Dinner — Kristen :) @ 8:48 pm

Well, it’s been another blustery day, ALL day!!  I think tomorrow we are supposed to get even more wind and isolated thunderstorms, nice.  Chris and I had a pretty low-key day.  I was able to get to a body pump class in morning, as well as some wash and random organization of my desk that is still somewhat a mess right now!

I’ve had a few bites on my bike since listing it for sale on CraigsList, but it is proving a challenge to actually get a hold of them and organize a meet-up.  Chris got it all cleaned and lubed up for me so I don’t want to ride it and dirty it up now 🙂 I also need to figure out a new one hmmmm . . . I’m still loving the BH Speedrom, but I’d like to see if I can get this frame with Ultegra components.

What do you think?

I’m also considering the Cervelo S1, but I guess the 2010 one has the older Ultegra components.  Does that really matter?

I also like Specialized, but Ultegra components run with better frames at more expensive prices : /

Which would you choose?  I hate to say it, but the look of the bike is also a big part of my decision, which Chris doesn’t seem to understand.  I’ll keep looking and thinking . . .

~~~~
Before heading to body pump I had a 1/2 ww naan topped with leftover quinoa mixture from the stuffed kabocha + an egg with some cottage cheese and berries on the side.  Oh and yes, one smallish piece of banana bread that gets even better the next day! (sorry no pic)
I’m trying a different fish oil now and returned the CardioTabs.  Nordic Naturals can be ordered on Amazon, they have a bit more EPA as well as Vitamin D and I’ve noticed they don’t make me burp as much, although the other ones didn’t really that much either.  I like these ones so far!
After weights I felt pretty good and re-fueled with another contender in the whey protein taste battle . . . Vega Sport Protein!
I don’t know if this would win any awards for the best flavor, but it wasn’t too bad on its own.  A little chalky and definitely ‘green’ tasting.  It would be just fine mixed up in a smoothie 🙂  And it has a great nutritional profile.
For lunch I decided to have a little munchy plate with salmon salad (with grapes and walnuts), crackers, carrots, hummus and string cheese . . . munch munch . . .  I also had the last few gulps of Chris’ recovery smoothie from yesterday.  I definitely like to munch on random things during the day.
The afternoon rolled around, along with some tummy grumbling, and I found myself munching on a handful of pistachios and nuts and then felt like I wanted to try a Yammit Bar from Jay Robb that they sent me to try.
I had a bite and it was tasty!  It reminded me of a Lara Bar, just a little wider and flatter.
For dinner we decided to make Falafel pitas!!!  I love these and haven’t made them in awhile.
Roasted zucchini is a must!
They’re sprinkled with a little olive oil, garlic powder and herbes de provence and baked in a 450 F oven for about 45 minutes, turning once.  Roasting brings out such wonderful flavor.
I topped mine with some roasted bell peppers, zucchini and 1/2 slice of lite muenster cheese.
I couldn’t resist a little avocado on top and some baked kale chips + Greek yogurt and hummus for dipping 🙂  Kale chips are great dipped into Greek.
Want some?
It’s been a great weekend and yet again I’m said to see it go 🙁
Here’s to the start of a good week!  I think I’m going to hit the hay and it’s only 8:30pm, I’m pooped!
  4. Just got my Cervelo S1 today. So far, I’m LOVIN’ it! I don’t understand anything about the components though, so can’t help you there.
  5. Johanna, Very cool! It looks like a pretty sweet bike, how is it for climbing? I need all the help I can get in that department lol
  6. My suggestion is to get on each bike and ride it. You’ll need to be sized first and be sure that the seat and handlebars are adjusted properly before you test each one.
    As far as the components go the only difference I’ve found (besides weight) is that the much higher end components (Durace) sometimes shift a little more smoothly. Really though the difference is nominal and unless you really want to shave off ounces your better going with the frame you prefer.
    The only exception to this is when choosing the crank set. I like the double compact and would suggest it to you. If you’re really set on a triple its expensive and sometimes really involved (think completely new component set) to switch to a double if you change your mind. I find the double compact works fine though and gets me through the crazy climbs all the way to the long sprints just fine.
    Again though – get on the bikes and try out the various components. I took an entire weekend day to go to various shops, get fitted and test ride for every bike I’ve purchased. Your body dimensions are unique to you and you’ll find what works best for others may really not always apply across the board.
    I’m so excited to be riding with you and I’m sure you’ll make a decision that pairs you with a bike you will enjoy and love for years.
    See you in a month!
  7. Jill, Thanks so much for your perspective! I’ve tried a short ride with the specialized & BH once (will prob go back a few more times!), but the other shop with Cervelos is pretty strict about fitting so you have to buy the bike first, get fitted and then you get 3 other shots if it doesn’t work out. Regardless where I get the bike, I want to get fitted by that guy because he’s all about the exact fit & measurements.
    I definitely want to go for the compact to help with that 17% grade on the napa ride!
    Can’t wait!! My fiance is joining us now and we are super stoked 🙂
  8. Well, I don’t know much about the bikes, but I say get the one that looks the coolest.
    I do however have a little tidbit about the fish oil pills. When I went to buy some the other week, the sales rep said that it is rare, but some people get the “fish burps.” A simple solution to this is to put the pills in the freezer and freeze them, and that solves the problem.
    Not sure if you have tried this or not, but it may be worth a shot? I luckily haven’t experienced this.
  10. Falafel pitas sound so good! x x
  11. I’m very biased since I’m already a S1 owner. I love the fact that you can use the two position seatpost (73 degree for regular road and 76 degree for tri/TT) to tailor to what you’re doing. It’s nice to be able to slap on aero bars and change the seat position for a better aero fit than you can normally.
    My local standard climb is a 1300 foot climb of 3.37 miles average 7.2% grade — Napa looks like a bit over 2 miles at 8% for 1000. I’m sure I’ll bitch about it a lot but shouldn’t be a problem. S1 climbs nice!
    Jill has the right advice though to test ’em all out and make sure to pick the best fit! Kelly just got her fit done last weekend. 2 hours to get done and $200 but worth every penny. Fortunately mine was included with the purchase of my bike 😉
  12. Sean, Thanks! sounds like you’re ready, and looks like there’s 17% in some spots, yikes. I’m sure I’ll bitch lol probably curse too, but after that it looks like it’s all down hill from there 🙂 so many options and I’m the most indecisive, I also started looking into the Trek Madone 4.5 or 4.7?
  13. I love that you got veggies into the falafel mix and on top of the falafel! Don’t think I’ve ever roasted zucchini before, will have to try that. Thanks!
  15. I’m confused. How? How can you stick to just ONE of those pitas? I would eat 5 of those, they look simply irresistible! Wow, love the colors, too!
  17. Oh I do love falafel, your photographs are giving me some serious cravings right now. I wish I could help you decide on a bike, but I know nothing about them. I like the second one (the red one!) I dont know why I just think it looks neat 🙂
