My Fitness Diary

While I’ve been dancing for most my life and have taken tons of fitness classes, I’ve decided to change it up a bit by trying out running, cycling and swimming. Running is a completely different animal!! I’ve only worked up to a couple 5k races, but hope to aspire to completing a sprint triathlon and tackling the racing season on a cycling team . . . stay tuned!

Here are some race recaps:

Turkey Trot (November 2009)

  • 3.1 miles in 28:34

Chefs For Kids 5k (January 2010)

  • 3.1 miles in 27:57, placed 2nd in my age group . . progress!

My fiance Chris also enjoys cycling and staying active, check out some of his race recaps:

Viva Bike Vegas Century Ride

Tour de Cure Century for the American Diabetes Association

Recently I completed a 100 mile bike ride called Echelon Gran Fondo on May 23rd in Napa, CA.  The $1200 that Chris and I raised went to support LiveStrong the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which inspires and empowers people affected by cancer.  I know many of us have been afflicted with this terrible disease in our own families so I was honored to help in this fight.  My grandpa has had 4 different types of cancer and thankfully he has been able to battle through each one and remains cancer free to this day.  It’s such a terrible thing to go through.  Money also went to local hospitals to support and enhance cancer treatment services.

This ride was such a great and empowering experience!  Although it was the most challenging ride with lots of epic climbing, I am so excited to start training for another one, call me crazy.

Check out my full Napa Century Ride Recap and our Napa Trip if you get the chance!

New bike!

I just love the feeling of participating in these kinds of events, especially meeting new friends that also enjoy being active.

Go Team Awesome!

I completed Viva Bike Vegas October 9th 2010!  Yeee-hah!  Those 115 miles were tiring but a ton of fun.

And we got to go over the new bridge over Hoover Dam.

I’ve recently tried swimming which I am not the best at, but boy what a workout!

Just over a year ago I was struggling to keep up with most riders in our local cycling group, and now we’re getting ready to race! You really can do anything you put your mind to with dedication and positive thoughts.  Go for it!

I’m looking forward to my first racing season this year . . . wish me luck!
