rosemary’s restaurant + bike fitting party

Since I had a Groupon to Rosemary’s Restaurant about to expire before we would both be in town together to use it, and we also never really got a Valentine’s Day dinner together, we decided to get all fancied up and splurge!  I’ve been wanting to try Rosemary’s for years now.  It’s definitely the type of place we can only frequent maybe once a year, but boy it was worth it!  It’s always so nice to have a special meal and it will definitely be one I will remember for a long time!

It’s located in your usual shopping mall and inside is very comfy.  The menu changes on occasion and there are different chef specials and tastings to choose from.

We also haven’t enjoyed a bottle of vino together in a looooong time and decided to get a bottle of 2007 pinot noir from the Sonoma coast.  Most pinots are pretty light, but this one still had some richness and depth which we like.

The chef also brought each table a little bite of goodness.  I believe this was vegetable bread pudding with onion compote and vinaigrette.  It was a great pop of flavor in the mouth!

I started with the Wilted Spinach Salad

Wilted Spinach w/Shaved La Quercia Prosciutto, Goat Cheese Boulettes, Spiced Pecans & Sherry Mustard Dressing

Chris had the special roasted tomato soup that was very rich and tasty.

For an entree I decided to go with my favorite . . . salmon.  I seem to always go for fresh fish since I don’t get to make it that often at home.  Wow, this was amazingly rich with a great depth of flavor from the smoked tomato, but still bright with citrus.  It went really well with the lighter balanced pinot.

Brioche Crusted Salmon w/French Green Lentils & Smoked Tomato Butter Sauce

Chris went with the special again with a fish called Pompano and underneath was a bed of couscous with roasted asparagus, lobster, and some kind of lemon butter sauce.

Of course we had to get dessert!!

I opted for the apple tart with cinnamon ice cream and Chris had creme brulee mmmmm

Overall it was a wonderful dinner and I smile when I look back on it and relish in all the wonderful flavors and special night with my guy.  So nice to do that every once in awhile 🙂

I was working at my new consulting job on Saturday and another fun part of my weekend was a bike fitting party on Sunday with my biking buddies 🙂  Since the back of my knee has been funky, our friends graciously offered for some of us to come over and see if we’re all lined up correctly on the bike.  We all brought over some food to enjoy and grill up.  It was fun!

I made a tasty orzo pasta salad like my lemony farro salad that everyone really liked 🙂

I’m hoping that the new fit will work out even though I found that the way the seat post and frame is positioned is not ideal for my body type and long femurs.

From what I understand the laser level has to line up with the ball of your foot and the tip of your knee cap.  I guess with mine the line was way further out than my knee cap and I had to slide my saddle back pretty far and up slightly to line it up better.

We shall see!  I’m hoping to get a couple good weee early rides in this week and then Thursday afternoon I’m heading to SCAN!!!  yay!! I can’t wait to learn more about sports nutrition and meet other sports-minded amazing RDs!

Hope you have a great week!

Have you had any meals to remember lately?

  3. I’m jealous you’re going to SCAN. I wanted to go but it just wasn’t in the cards for me. Are you going to the Napa to FCP event?

The restaurant you guys dined at looks great. I love how they served salmon over French green lentils. I’m lentil-obsessed. Thanks for sharing. Have fun at SCAN. Look forward to hearing about it. Happy RD Day!!

  4. @Trish, I actually thought I wouldn’t be able to go but I signed up as a student volunteer and another dietitian graciously offered her guest room for me 🙂 I would LOVE to go the Napa event, but it was a choice between either scan or fcp. There are just too many good events out there!
    Happy RD Day to you!

  6. Kristen, love these photos. This looks like a fabulous meal. Like you, I don’t make fish at home very often so will order it out.

  7. so smart to get a good bike fit. how do you like your jamis?

  8. @kalli, I like it, but I’m thinking the frame might not be optimal for my longer femurs my friend was saying and the seat post is angled so I have to have it pretty high. But it is working out! I’ve just about paid it off too 🙂

  9. Sounds like you had a great time at the restaurant! Whenever I go to a fancy restaurant, I usually order the salmon, too, because a great restaurant will usually prepare a superb piece of fish!

Glad you had a chance to get your bike adjusted – I’m learning so much about biking from you! Have a great time at SCAN – can’t wait to hear about it!
