sausage pepper melts + a winner!

I’m trying to play a game called post catch-up, as the computer I am borrowing at the moment doesn’t have a driver with my card reader or something like that (so Chris says).  I still haven’t heard anything back yet about my laptop 🙁  and I still have my finger’s crossed that I will get a credit for a new one soon.  I hope, I hope, I hope.  This time around I have an easy recipe for you and I’ll announce the CSN Stores Giftcard winner!  Read on for

Anyone ever wish they could clone themselves?  Boy that would be neat if it could work.  somehow.  Or better yet, why don’t we just evolve to not need sleep?  Just think about the extra time we would have!  I could get a lot done with an extra 6-7 hours at hand.  I’d love to avoid the heat by biking at 2am, or I’d probably just waste too much time with Facebook, Twitter, etc. 🙂  What would you accomplish if you didn’t have to sleep?

On to the recipe, shall we?

This one is super easy and doesn’t take much of any time at all since I utilize my handy dandy Trader Joe’s resources. Hopefully this recipe can free up a little more of your time for other things 🙂

Sausage Pepper Melts

Serves: 4

  • 4 links of your fav chicken sausage (I used TJ’s Garlic & Herb)
  • 1 pkg crimini mushrooms (8oz), chopped
  • 1 pkg TJ’s frozen grilled peppers & onions mix
  • 4 slices of your fav cheese (I used lite muenster)
  • 4 Nature’s Pride Country White Deli Rolls

Note:  I received these Nature’s Pride Sesame rolls for free as part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker’s Program.

I actually really liked these rolls, and while I don’t always like to choose white flour, they had a really great texture and slightly sweet flavor.

This is the chicken sausage I picked up at TJ’s and it has a great flavor!

Instructions

Sauté the sausage on a grill pan or outside grill until golden (mine were already cooked).

Meanwhile sauté the mushrooms and peppers in another large pan until heated and golden.  Place all your fillings + 1/2 the cheese in the pan, top with opened bun, and steam for about 4-5 minutes.

Flip bun over and top with the rest of the cheese to melt. Easy!

I felt like having a beer with this because it just seems like the kind of meal to have an ice cold bruskie with, doesn’t it?  I went to the very back of my fridge and grabbed what I could find.  Oh yes, a Pyramid Apricot Ale, my favorite beer!

Well I poured it into a glass . . .

But it didn’t look quite right all the fizz was gone.  hmmmm . . . so I looked on the expiration date and it said 9/30/09!!  I guess I haven’t had a beer in awhile.  So I grabbed one of these because, while it didn’t have a date on it, it still at least had some fizz 🙂

I really like TJ’s Bavarian Hefe too.  It has glorious flavor characteristics of banana, gum, clove and grain.  mmm

Want a bite?

Now on to the winner!

Using random.org, the winner of the $60 CSN Stores GiftCard is . . .

Gina!

Here’s what she wrote:

GREAT looking dinner Kristen!! Even if it has tofu in it :) hehe, I would just stick to tempeh.

As for the giveaway, this is fabulous. We are looking for a light fixture to go above our dining room table. I went to the website and there are so many, I would need Nick to make my final decision :) I Tweeted it for you!

I prefer morning workouts. Definitely.

Gina just bought a house too! I hope you enjoy the giftcard from CSN Stores!

I made it for another 4:30am ride this morning, and boy that is the only way to ride for me this summer.  I’m even sweltering when the sun is barely out!  It was a nice a nice way to start the day with 15.1 miles and I averaged 15.8mph.

I can’t believe it’s 4th of July already folks!  I’m going to be headed to a party put on by Kristen’s mom to watch the fireworks 🙂  Thank you so much to all of those that have and currently serve for us.

Do you have any fun 4th of July plans or recipes?

  3. I can’t imagine such heat that the only time to workout outside is at 4:30 in the morning! Good for you for getting out there.

Enjoy your 4th! I will be packing and moving most of the weekend….exciting, but not so relaxing.

  5. NO WAY!!!! I’m so excited!! This is great. I think I use too many smiley faces in my comments 🙂 🙂 🙂 Yikes.

The melt looks great, especially with a good beer.
Nick talks about how he wants to clone himself at work all the time. It’s an interesting idea, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people were doing in sometime in the not so distant future!

  9. I’m not a huge fan of beer, but that definitely is a meal that I’d drink a beer with! You are so hardcore to ride at 4:30 am! Since the start of unemployment, I haven’t been able to get up earlier than 7 or 8 am, hehee.

  10. That is an easy recipe, and it looks good too! Since it is summer, I am grilling all the time, so I will add this to the list. I will also have to pick up some TJ Hefe next time I am there, I love Hefe. Anyway, hope you two have a good fourth!
