birthday kind of a day

Thank you for all the birthday wishes!  I was definitely feeling the love 🙂  It was a pretty low key day, being that it was during the week and I had to work, but overall it was a great day and I couldn’t complain!  When I got home from work I about started to whip something up for dinner, but I decided to ask Chris first, and he replied with a . . . No! 🙂

When I heard the garage door, I came downstairs to a birthday bag and a smiling Chris.  I wasn’t really expecting what I ended up grabbing out of the bag, but kind of gave him a look of  ‘what the heck?’ and then I started cracking up laughing

hehe  It was a bag full of a giant onion and bell peppers!  Ok, well I guess I like to cook . . .

And then he brought out another box from the pantry that was long in shape and marked with Williams-Sonoma . . . . It was a Shun santoku knife!!!!!  eeee!  I’ve been drooling over this for years.  These knives are the bomb and feel so comfortable to hold.  Chopping lots of veggies, and yes, the cry-inducing onion, will be fun again, yay!

After I messed around with the new knife, and even diced up one of those peppers with ease, we headed out for a little birthday dinner at BJ’s.  We started out with the avocado eggroll appetizer.  I had 2 of the smaller halves because of course this isn’t the lightest option, but darn good!

I love how you can order a taster of their brews which is only 5oz, but it comes in a cute glass that makes it seem like more.  I haven’t been drinking much at all these past 4 or more months, so it was kind of weird to taste alcohol again lol but 5oz is just enough for me and my century-training muscles 🙂

I ordered a mini Mediterranean deep-dish pizza and I always seem to order the pizzas when I’m here.  I had 3/4 of it and took the rest to-go.  mmm pesto!

And the best part of the meal . . . A little birthday pazookie!  I’m kind of glad they don’t bring out the regular size for birthdays anymore because it was actually just perfect for 2.  Thanks for a wonderful night and gift Chris!

It was a great ending to a great night!

Ok, I’m making myself get up at 4am tomorrow to get a quick hour ride in.  I think the weather will be good and I’m going to get all my gear out tonight so I can just get up and go *fingers crossed* 🙂  That means I need to be in bed by at least 8:30 . . .

What’s one of your favorite birthday memories?

  5. Sweet knife! My husbands best friend and therefore the best man at the wedding is a professional chef, like for real professional, and he got us a shun for our wedding. It rocks, but it is a big one, so I let Ryan use that and I stick to the Caphalon santoku, cause it’s just safer that way. Looks like a you had a great birthday.

  11. What a cute gift! I love that he gave you the veggies and THEN the knife 🙂 So clever! The dinner looks wonderful, especially the appetizer!

My best birthday was taking a nap on my parent’s couch and waking up to my husband who was living in Italy at the time. He wasn’t scheduled to be in the US at all, and when I woke up, it was to him kissing my cheek! Best birthday surprise effort! I really thought I was dreaming! 🙂

  19. Happy Belated Birthday! I love BJ’s..what a fun birthday dinner! And I’m a bit jealous of your new fancy knife. All of my knives are hand-me-down’s and can’t cut hot butter!

  20. Lara, Thanks!! I know that’s the only nice knife I own, all the rest are from a set I bought in college for $40 that can’t cut anything! lol
