not ready for the holidays

As I look at the calendar telling me it’s the 20th of December, I can’t help but want to turn back the clock, oh just a few months.  Pretty please? I’m sure many of you all have all the shopping done, the goodies baked, the Christmas menu planned out.  Me?  oh no, this year I have absolutely nothing done.  I made it to a few holiday parties and am working on some handmade hot cocoa mix gifts, but haven’t even managed to get a tree or decorations up.  Heck I haven’t even listened to any Christmas music, except unwillingly in all the stores that are blaring the jolly tunes.  Yep, you can call me scrooge this year! ha!  (more…)

stay healthy this holiday season

We all know that the holidays are fast approaching!  Every store we go into is blasting festive, cheery music, lights are twinkling, and for some, everything is blanketed in that white stuff that’s wonderful to look at but not so fun to drive in. While we’re scrambling to get every last task accomplished, all the gifts wrapped, the house cleaned, cookies baked for the cookie exchange, and still find the energy to make it to the gym or train, the last thing on our minds is our own sanity and health!   (more…)

Carlitos Burritos Birthday

Chris celebrated his 26th birthday this Friday!  Most Fridays we head to a favorite little restaurant called Carlito’s Burritos that has some great New Mexican cuisine and is fairly cheap.  I also talked about this great place in my weekend of friends post.  Even though I had to get there a bit early to find a table, it’s a great place to hang out, have some killer, spicy food, and celebrate a birthday of the one you love with friends!   (more…)

POM dinner party – tapas style

I was chosen as a finalist to host a fun POM party using those big red beauties in season.  I love dinner parties, so I was definitely up for the challenge!  Because the party had to be held right after getting back from FNCE in Boston, I had to hustle to plan the menu, go shopping for all the ingredients, and get everything set up by the weekend.  I’m excited to share with you my POM party recap, it was a lot of fun! FNCE 2010 – positivity, inspiration, empowerment

Looking back on my experience at FNCE last weekend, I have never felt more positive energy and inspiration from a group of professionals all looking to improve the overall health and lives of others.  Granted this was only my second FNCE conference, first one as a dietitian, but I hope to remain on this positivity high for a long time to come.  I met some amazing RDs and it was so neat to finally meet many of my twitter friends and put an actual face with a name!   (more…)

Happy Nevada Day Weekend!

With Friday off for Nevadans, I celebrated the day with a chilly 35 mile bike ride in the am, followed by a ton of overdue house chores, cleaning, and wash.  As I was left pondering how the day went by so darn fast at 5pm, I made one of the quickest, cheapest, and tastiest dinner creations to date.  Now that’s my kind of dinner!   (more…)

weekend of friends

Whew, where has the time gone?  I apologize for being MIA lately, but life has come along and shifted my time away from the blog.  It’s sure is tough fitting it all in as you guys all know, but I’m hanging in there and doing my best to maintain this little corner of the blogosphere that I enjoy so much.  I know that posting regularly is the best for readership, but it just doesn’t quite work that way for me now =/ and sometimes there is nothing like a weekend full of good times and good friends.   (more…)

Viva Bike Vegas 2010!

It seems like all I’ve been posting lately is bike ride this and bike ride that doesn’t it?!  Sorry about that, but alas I have another cycling event post!  At this point last year when Chris was getting ready for Viva 2009, it was about 4 months after we had both started cycling and I had thought to myself, I don’t know if I could ever do a century! It’s funny to look back and realize that was going through my mind at that point in time.  I was so happy for Chris, but I was still pretty new to this whole cycling thing and my foot was just barely touching the water.  Flash forward to now and I’ve just about jumped right in!!!  So far with this century under my belt now, I’ve finished 2 centuries, one of which was the Napa Century, and am going to be on a cycling team!  A lot can happen over the course of a year . . .   (more…)

what an experience – Furnace Creek 508

Hi guys!!  I am sooo loving this cool down we are having!  I actually had to put on a little zip up jacket when we were walking Buster last night.  We even had a pretty torrential downpour Monday and I didn’t quite make it home from my bike ride (pic to follow).  First, I have to share some pictures from the Furnace Creek 508 bike race this past weekend with my friend Jen.  She is the most inspirational, amazingly strong cyclist and athlete I know and I was absolutely honored and excited to be on her crew.  It was one experience I will never forget . . .   (more…)

camp blogaway blast

I still cannot believe that I was invited to attend CampBlogaway, and I was absolutely thrilled to be there with other fabulous and talented food bloggers.  I love being around others who all have such a passion and joyful energy in what they do.  I know many of us don’t blog for our income as a ‘job’ per se, but we do it because we love it, we have a strong passion for it, and it gives us that spark to life and who we are.  This event was definitely one of those that will be remembered and cherished for a very long time.   (more…)
