it’s all about friends and food

by Kristen :) on February 6, 2012

I’ll be honest I’m not a big fan of football.  I do like to watch basketball on occasion, but football? eh… Chris likes to watch it a lot of course so I try to act like I’m interested, but usually end up staring at my phone or going to another room.  There is one occasion once a year during the lovely thing we call SuperBowl that I don’t mind football so much, mostly because I’m not watching the game at all except the funny commercials… so I’m not a big fan of football, but give this gal some good friends and tasty food and I’m all over it!

Back up a little to Saturday which also included some good friends.  My cycling buddy and I got in some great miles out to Callville and actually beat our previous fastest time when we were drafting with a couple other strong riders. I couldn’t really believe that for 3 hours of riding time we averaged 17.5 mph and it was only the 2 of us in the wind.  Neat!

Gorgeous views of the desert.

Here is Callville Bay…

This ride has some good climbing and rollers.  Nice and challenging.

We saw a few interesting things on our ride, including a coconut on the side of the road and this man with his giant parrot.  Tropical I guess?

I ended up with 51 miles and felt pretty good by the end, although I was ready to dismount the saddle for sure.

Sunday we went out for a little later ride around the River Mountain Trail for 35 miles.  The weather was gorgeous and warm enough we only had to wear shorts and a jersey.  This ride took us a little over 2 hours of riding time with a 17 mph average!  It was also a bit breezy with some good climbing too.  Awesome!  Let’s just say the legs are a little tuckered and ready for a rest day ;)

This is a neat picture!  Looks like I’m heading towards the “light”.

Pretty soon it was time for the Super Bowl!!!

I was invited to a Super Bowl party hosted by Kristen’s mom who always has delicious food to share.  This party was no different.  There was a ton of yummy food to choose from.

Always love her salad bar.

Here is my plate full of goodness…

There were also a bunch of desserts to choose from…

I decided to not go too overboard (which I can easily tend to do with desserts), and had an oreo cupcake with some strawberries.  Yum!

Great food and even better friends!  I stole this one from Kristen ;)

I also stopped by another friend’s party a little later and enjoyed some company and a tasty brew.  Good times.

Well, I guess it’s good ol’ Monday already.  I hope everyone has a fabulous week!  Next weekend coming up is my first stage race of the season…eeek!

Did you have any yummy food during the Super Bowl?  Any fun physical activity this past weekend?

I love to watch football, but ONLY when the Buckeyes are playing ! So….the Super Bowl is just boring to me too (even the commercials since we had already seen the best ones on morning TV!).
I wish the party we went to had such delicious food. We had cheese-stuffed pastries (NOT as good as they sound) and cheesy sausage bread. Gross.

Looks like you had a gorgeous weekend for cycling, and Kristen’s party sounds like it was a lot of fun! My “workouts” this weekend consisted of sledding on Saturday (the community where my in-laws live makes sonw once a year, so even though it was over 60 degrees that day, my kids and I were sledding :-) . Then on Sunday I spent over three hours working in my yard since it was so nice out! Then my friends came over to cook at our house-Tri-tip, roasted potatoes, and salad, plus my dad made bruschetta and I
made chocolate lava cakes. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend!

Sounds like a great ride (love the beautiful blue skies) and a fun time hanging with friends. I didn’t watch too much of the game either…I’m more of a college football fan, and I didn’t even think the commercials were that great this year either, which was sad. Oh, well!

I saw a man walking a giant parrot on a run once. Perhaps it was the same guy.
Sorry for the delayed comment..so glad we got to hang out. Sorry I have been so busy.
