lots of wedding planning

Hi there!  This past weekend Chris and I made the drive to Reno to take a look at our wedding location, meet with our coordinator and figure out other vendors including the wedding cake.  In fact, we had so much cake, I think we are pretty much set on eating any kind of dessert until the wedding in September!  Our weekend was jam-packed, but it was great to get to see the space and start the countdown for the wedding, which is now less than 3 months away!

Making the 7 hour drive to Reno from Vegas has to be one of the most dreaded drives for me because there is absolutely not much to look at and most of the drive is on a two-lane highway which scares me to death.  Chris was a champ and volunteered to make the drive since it ended up being way cheaper than flying and I can’t handle passing.

We LOVE Reno!!!  Chris and I haven’t been back here since about 4 years ago when we were both attending UNR for undergrad.  I don’t know, there is just something about this place that we both really love.  If we could move back and find jobs, we’d be back in a heart beat!

We arrived Thursday evening and grabbed some tasty pizza.

You order at the counter, grab a number and find a spot.

Many of the employees and it’s founder are athletes and are active in the athletic community 🙂

This salad was fantastic.

As well as the pizza 🙂

After dinner Chris and I decided to bring back some good memories and head to the UNR Campus to walk around.  This campus is gorgeous!!

We didn’t get a chance to use the new library that was being built before we left, but boy it looks nice.

This is the quad where I graduated!

Neat architecture.

After our little stroll we decided to head to the Eldorado for some more memories of late night fun 🙂

This was a fun place for dancing, which is one of my favorites 😉

Roxy’s is another great place to lounge with live jazz music on most nights.

And we had to get a slice of our favorite house made strawberry cake.  We’d usually grab one of these after a night of dancing to share 🙂

And so begins the weekend of cake tastings and food . . .

We visited 3 different bakeries and Dee’s Bakery had to be one of our favorites that stood out among the rest.  Her cake was phenomenal and she had a very caring demeanor.

Our favorites were the chocolate peanut butter mousse, tiramisu, and the very berry cake.  Yum!

Here’s a pic of a cake that I really like the feel of.

We also visited La Vecchia which will be our caterer for the wedding.  Everything was tasty!

One of our appetizers will be a crostini with goat cheese, artichokes, marinated olives tapenade and a drizzling of balsamic reduction.

Chris has been having issues trying to find a suit that fits his long arms, but he actually found one that worked and was cheap! The only thing is that the suit that fits him doesn’t fit his older brother, and so the suit search will continue . . .

Because he can’t find a lighter color suit, I’m going to have to find another bridesmaid’s dress in case he has to have a black suit.  Don’t think a brown dress would go that well with a black suit =/  Sure love this one though.

Our wedding is going to be at Rancho San Rafael Park, which is a gorgeous park located near downtown Reno.  Chris and I used to walk all over this park when we were dating in school.

Here is the ceremony location!

A view of the Ranch House where the reception will be held.

There were lots of pretty flowers starting to bloom.

And we will have dancing in this room since we can’t have amplified music outside.

Lots of green!  Hopefully in September there will still be some green around.

We are super excited and now I’m frantically working on the details.  I’m trying not too get too stressed and just have a good time, but I can’t believe it’s less than 3 months away!  Where did the time go?

Our friends graciously let us stay with them for the weekend and we got to meet their cute new labradoodle puppy!!  omg she was a doll!  I wanted to take her home 🙂

It was a great weekend!

In other news I’m still trying to focus on thesis (ugh), and dinners have mostly been quick and easy.

For this quinoa dish I simply cooked 2 cups of quinoa with a bit of canned chipotle chilis in adobo, topped it with a mix of black beans, corn, bell peppers, roasted cherry tomatoes, and a dollop of guac and greek yogurt.  I also sauteed an egg with some extra egg white on the side.  Yum!

Delicious and easy!

Hope you have been doing well and have a great weekend!

Any wedding planning tips?

  4. Your pictures look Reno look much better than I remember! Although, to be fair I only spent one night there prior to a game against UNR and pretty much only saw the soccer field, my hotel, and some restaurants! Good luck with the wedding planning and thesis!

  12. Everything looks amazing guys! That picture of Chris looking out the window where the dancing is going to be is funny. Chris looks like: “Awww, I wish we could dance out there…” Sorry we missed you when you were up here, but really who could have thought that in June it would be snowing over the pass? We will see you guys in a few months!

  15. Love seeing all the wedding details! Beautiful site for the ceremony and reception! And the quinoa dish does look super yummy. The right color of brown does go with a black suit. My bridesmaids wore a bronzy brown that looked great – at least I thought so. 🙂
