wine tasting at milo’s + christmas celebrations

Just as fast as the holidays snuck up on me, they vanished without a trace until next year when I hope to be a little more prepared! A little time off always goes by way to fast though, doesn’t it?  While I wasn’t in the normal holiday spirit, certainly the best part about this time of year is getting together with family and friends that we haven’t seen in awhile.  That’s really what it’s all about.  Yea, we didn’t have too many decorations, or a lavish meal, but we did get to spend time together and that’s what counts.  I even got some wine tasting in.  wooo!

Since cycling has taken over, we really don’t drink wine as much anymore and our little wine fridge is packed full with neglect.  I’m certainly a light weight and one glass throws me for a loop the next day, which usually isn’t good for riding =/ Because it’s the holidays, a time for relaxation and having a few drinks, we found a cute wine bar in Boulder City called Milo’s.  A couple friends have been there and said it is fantastic, so we’ve wanted to try it out for awhile now.  Best of all Wednesdays are 1/2 off all drinks for the ladies, even flights!  We got a great group of friends together and had a fun evening.

The inside is really cute.

We were down in the cellar.

Most of their menu consists of appetizer platters to compliment the wine, as well as salads and sammies.

I also had to bring Christmas crackers which adds some fun!  When you pull the ends apart, they make a large ‘crack’ and reveal various things inside like a joke, a prize and a paper hat that everyone has to wear during dinner 🙂  They are a British tradition.

I started out with a tasty Brie platter to share with Kristen (SwankyRD).

Cheers!

We also shared a pollo bella sandwich.  It was tasty, but the bread was not the best.  More like a stale hamburger bun when I was expecting a nice foccaccia.  It did come with terra chips which are really tasty.

ummm just a few glasses

We had a great time at Milo’s!

Christmas Celebrations

We didn’t do anything too crazy this year, but had some of Chris’ family over for a nice Christmas lunch.  I made rosemary-garlic crusted lamb roast with quinoa stuffing and roasted vegetables.  It was all delish!  I totally spaced a picture of the final roast though, bummer.

In the stuffing I put a mixture of celery, leek, carrots, apples and cranberries.

For dessert I picked up a blueberry pie at Layers Bakery and it was heavenly.

I think my favorite part about it was the crust, which usually isn’t the case for me with pies.  I don’t think there was any butter or shortening in this crust 😉 oh no

I don’t feel like I went overboard with eating, kept each meal to one helping and stopped before I got too full, but I still feel like there has been lots of eating going on! 🙂  It will be good to get back into the swing of normal eating.  I hope you all had a nice holiday and enjoyed quality time with family and friends!

What was your favorite part of the holidays this year?

I love that you hosted Christmas – I hope to someday soon 🙂 Sooner rather than later, anyways!

The wine night looks fabulous! The brie looks just as good as the wine! Mmm!

  3. Looks like you had a great Christmas! Milo’s sounds like a lot of fun. I totally hear you on the lightweight thing, too. 🙂

My fave part of the holidays was seeing my brother and sister, who are away at school most of the year!

  4. So neat that you went to Milo’s. I heard of it, but never made it down there. I guess that Boulder City is closer to you anyway since you live in Henderson. When we lived up by the base it was much closer to head up Mt. Charleston for something different to do.

My favorite part of the holidays is having time off from work (at the school) right now.

  6. I’m glad you had a nice holiday, Kristen.
This restaurant sounds fabulous! I love that they served Terra chips, I’ve never heard of a restaurant doing that, I love those chips. We do the Christmas crackers at Nick’s mom’s house for Christmas eve every year, they are so fun!

My favorite part about Christmas this year was playing all the fun group games. We played Balderdash and Taboo and had a BLAST just laughing for hours!
