lunch at the park + another wedding venue

Happy Labor Day weekend!  I always love 3-day weekends!  It always seems like I can get so many more things done.  We had a spontaneous lunch at the park with Buster the Basset the other day.  He is so funny!  I also went to my first bridal show, which was an interesting experience, and visited another wedding venue option.  Today I was even able to get in a longer bike ride. Sweeet!  I hope you have enjoyed your weekend and an extra day if you were able to have Labor Day off.

Every so often we like to take Buster to a nearby park to enjoy the sun and hang out for a bit.  He always enjoys going to the park, tries to eat our lunch, and romps around the grass like a crazy basset.  We don’t have grass in our little backyard, so every time he sees it, he goes bonkers.  Hilarious!

I made a quick salmon salad and Chris took some leftovers we had in the fridge and we headed off to the park.

The weather was gorgeous and we lounged a little bit before lunch.

But Buster was hungry (he always is) and we brought along some carrot sticks for him (he loves carrots!)

My salad + some cantaloupe.

Buster sure was looking for any tasty morsel.  We had to sit just far enough so he couldn’t reach or else he would attack!

Then it was time for a walk!!!  Buster gets so excited for his walks.  He usually sleeps all day, but demands 2 short walks each day and is the happiest dog.  Perky tail and all . . .

Most of our walks consists of lots of sniffing.

And then he’ll have a burst of running energy . . . weeee!

More sniffing . . .

And running . . . hehe

Happy Basset

C’mon Buster you can do it!

aaaand he’s off once again!

I have never seen a basset run so fast.  Look at those short legs go!

Chris finally caught up with him, whew.

It’s always such fun to hang out at the park and Buster has a hay day with all that romping and sniffing new smells.

First Bridal Show & Wedding Venue #2

On Sunday I went to my first bridal show at Green Valley Ranch.  It was packed!  There were a ton of different vendors and samples of all sorts of things.  It was actually kind of fun, but I’m so glad one of my friends and bridesmaid came with me instead of Chris.  I know Chris would have hated it, ha!  Just not a fun time for boys.  I saw a few that were sitting down in chairs and taking a breather from the bridal bonanza.  I had so many things in my hands and was distracted by all the booths and dessert samples that I forgot to take even one picture dang it. I am excited because I did find a possible venue site called Cobblestone Manor there.  I am very interested to look at it since I’m kind of set on the backyard wedding style theme.  It’s a large tudor style home/mansion in Las Vegas, but the website is under construction and the paper only had a view pictures.  I’m going to be touring the site in November 🙂

I do have some pictures of another possible wedding venue though.  That same day Lake Las Vegas was having an open house of their venue so I decided to stop by since it’s fairly close.

It was spacious and looks out over their lake.

I liked the ceremony site and there was another one near the lake beach.

I did find our chocolate fountain vendor for sure –> Gillian Stover was so nice and we chatted for awhile since we are both locals.

I liked the venue, but it didn’t call out to me.  I think it might be too spacious for us and it was a bit pricey with a $7,000 minimum just for food and beverage = /

I tell you I have become addicted to looking at wedding blogs/sites and perusing photographer’s portfolios.  I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but it is so fun to look!  There are so many different things out there, it’s a bit overwhelming.  I am always up for a challenge and love planning just about any kind of event.

I haven’t really thought about anything else, but I have been looking at a few dresses for fun.

What do you think?  I’d like something simple, elegant and not a billion dollars.  These are all from Alfred Angelo.

Ok, enough of that, I could go on for days . . .

I guess I should at least post a few pictures of food, right?

Today I was able to make it on a 45.5 mile bike ride, wooo!  It’s been awhile since I’ve been a longer one and I could tell my body was a little apprehensive.  For some reason my hip has been bothering me and it was definitely talking to me towards the end of the ride = / Hopefully it’s not bad.  I actually averaged 16mph for the first 2 hours, but towards the end it was 15.5 which is still pretty good.  For my last century I averaged 15.1 mph and this next time around I’d like to see if I can do a little better at 15.5 or 16.

And when I got home I was ready for this!

ReGen Recovery Smoothie

I took one carton of ReGen, 1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt, 1/2 scoop AnyWhey protein, 1/2 cup frozen berries, 1/3 cup frozen chopped spinach, and 1 tbsp chia seeds and whirled it in the Magic Bullet.  I topped it with peanut butter puffins (love those things!)

Chris also whipped up an omelette and I had about 1/4 of it.

I apologize I’ve been absent, I’m meeting with my thesis committee in a week and trying to get things in order.  I think I finally have a project that will fit well and work, yay!  It will be related to work-site wellness/fitness if everything goes well 🙂

I hope you all had a nice weekend!  What were you up to?

  4. Buster is so cute! I wish I could get myself to bike for 45 miles. I felt impressed after doing 15 this weekend, baby steps I guess. 🙂

  5. Alex, oh yes it’s all about the baby steps, that’s awesome girl! It gets somewhat easier, but I seriously am not sure how I’m going to get to 115, yikes! Then it’s all about positive thoughts 🙂

  6. So cute that Buster likes carrots. I don’t think my dog likes any vegetables!

I also love the 2nd venue! So pretty! It is definitely pricey, though.

Good luck w/ your thesis work! Hope things come together quickly for you!

  7. Buster is just adorable!
I love the venue at Lake Las Vegas! I hope I can go look for dresses with you! It is funny cause you are so excited, and I have gotten excited about it too!
I love all those dresses but I think the second one would look really pretty on you.

  8. Yet another beautiful venue! I must admit that I’ve taken a look at Alfred Angelo’s dresses before, and I’m not even getting married:)

  9. I love the 2nd dress – gorgeous! I like the first one too, but I’m partial to long wedding dresses. Though in LV, you could easily do either!! 🙂 The venue is beautiful! It’s totally normal to get engrossed in wedding details. I can’t even begin to explain how wedding planning CONSUMED my life! 10. Oh man Kristen, you’re stressing me out!!! I almost don’t want Nick to propose to me because I don’t want to think about planning a wedding!! I will have to mark this post as a reminder for when I do, because I need those links, as I’m sure they are helpful. All the dresses are so beautiful, but I think I am going for VERY simple (as in maybe a $200 dress) because our money will be spend on the band, and the CAKE! 🙂

When I was growing up we had a neighbor with three Basset hounds. They barked ALL THE TIME, therefore I will admit that I am not a fan. However, I will imagine that yours don’t bark quite as loud and annoyingly as those did…..I can still hear them…….AHHHHH, it drove my mom nuts.

  12. What a lovely day! I love all the photos of your doggie… so cute!

Very interesting. I’m actually planning my wedding and I’m obsessed with looking at wedding stuff too. 😉

  13. The second dress is beautiful. I love all things wedding! I’m not even engaged and I’ve already been looking at dresses hahaha

  14. Ok, a couple of things:
First, I like the second and third dress (if an opinion for a boy matters 😛 )

Second, it is funny seeing Chris wearing a UNLV shirt after he was so anti UNLV when he was up at UNR. Which was funny as well, since we were raised with UNLV, and hated UNR when we were kids. 🙂

And finally, that blanket you guys were sitting on at the park! I can’t believe Chris still has that! That blanket is easily 15+ years old, I believe that was Brian’s comforter many many a year ago.

That’s all. Glad you guys had a good weekend. Bring Buster up next time you come to visit, him and Koi would have lots o fun.

  15. Allen, Of course it matters! thanks 🙂 I try not to talk wedding stuff too much with Chris to get on his nerves, but it’s always nice to get extra input and ideas. I was wondering if anyone would notice his shirt. I’m actually surprised he does wear it, but I guess he is technically a graduate of UNLV and he has those big UNLV slippers. Not sure how my graduation from UNLV will feel, but I will always be a wolpack at heart.
Chris did say that blanket is ancient. Buster really likes it 🙂
Glad Mason is feeling better, poor guy with that big goose egg on his head.
